About the event

When is it?

30th July – 6th August

What happens on the holiday?

You are invited to join us on a Christian Holiday in the English Lake District at the Blencathra Centre of the Field Studies Council, Threlkeld, Nr. Keswick. The holiday provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy the lakes and mountains, to meet old friends, make new ones and share in Christian fellowship.

The holiday is very informal, and everyone is free to arrange their own outings or get together with others to go fell walking, canoeing or visit places of interest like Keswick, the local town. Ideas for different activities are shared so that people can choose what they want to do and you’ll make new friends or renew friendships from previous years.

Although fell-walking is a major attraction the Committee are not responsible for such expeditions as paid or certificated leaders but as informal groups of friends people can walk and climb. If you are going walking make sure you have the proper kit or you can hire waterproofs and boots from the Centre for a small charge. Water sports are offered by many other centres in the Lake District and we often book and go as a group. If you have an inflatable canoe or boat these can be used on many of the lakes.

The whole holiday is part of a shared experience and there is a short ‘thought for the day’ at breakfast. On Sunday there is an optional family service in the morning and evening Communion. In the week we make two more opportunities for Christian fellowship in the evening which is also optional. There will be further (optional) opportunities for prayer and worship and we welcome those who would like to support/facilitate this. Evening activities are offered like the photo competition or table tennis competition which people can enter or just spectate and join for the fun.

The accommodation at the Blencathra Centre is full board. There is a cooked lunch on Sundays and packed lunches are prepared by guests for every other day. Guests help clear the tables after meals.

There are different venues where guests can relax at the Centre (subject to covid restrictions and Government guidelines). There is a general sitting room, a good-sized games room, a library, Wi-Fi, a small TV lounge and a room for making tea and coffee where cake is served in the afternoon.

How much does it cost?

Costs are £315 for all those aged 16 or over per week
